Gossip by the RSM ..................Phil has his say!

The greatest poem of all, especially for men and particularly for those men who from time to time need some direction and reassurance in life is by the great Rudyard Kipling entitled simply 'IF'. I have tried to recall this poem below which I discovered in a book whilst in the Army and which I first used to motivate myself and then later to entertain and to motivate others during some of my barrack room 'flings'. The book was by General Wavell (Second World War) titled 'Other Men's Flowers'.....Perhaps the 'great 'Paulo' and the ailing Dazza may also be inspired by Kipling and who knows may seek to better his work? I have always used lines from this poem to better myself.

  'If you can keep your head when those about you

  Are losing theirs, and blaming it on you;

  If you trust yourself when all men doubt you,

  But make allowance for their doubting too;

  If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

  Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,

  And hate, don't give way to hating,

  And yet, don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

  If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;

  If you can think and not make thought you aim;

  If you can meet with triumph and disaster

  And treat those two impostors just the same;

  If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

  Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

  Or watch what you gave your life to, broken,

  And stoop and build'em up again with worn out tools:

  If you can make one heap of all your winnings

  And risk it on one turn of pitch - and toss,

  And lose, and start again at your beginnings

  And never breath a word about your loss:

  If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

  To serve your turn long after you are gone,

  And so go on when there is nothing in you

  Except the Will which says in them: Hold on!

  If you can talk with crowds and always keep your virtue,

  Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,

  If neither foes nor friend alike can hurt you.

  If all men count with you, but none too much;

  If you can fill that unforgiving minute

  With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

  Yours is the world and everything that's in it,

  And - what's more - you'll be a man, my son

OK Phil lets see what you have rated for that one?
